As Plato once said, “Reality is created by the mind. We can change our reality by changing our mind.”

Physical fitness gets a lot of attention, and for a good reason -- but often neglected is the importance of our mental health. 

Having a healthy and strong mind allows us to handle the challenges and opportunities that life offers us. Without it, life becomes much more difficult. More powerful than our strongest muscles, our minds are what shape everything we do and how we experience the world around us. In fact, when we talk about what we’re experiencing, 80% of it is generated from the information that’s inside of our brains. Only 20% of our experience is from the actual external circumstances and events. In other words, how you’re experiencing ‘your reality’ is really a perspective. Your perspective. Which means you have a choice to change that.

This past year has been challenging: COVID-19, political unrest, isolation, systemic racism, job loss, and the list goes on. Collectively, the world was more than ready to cancel 2020. Studies have shown that suicide rates, loneliness, and depression among young people have increased this past year. 

During turbulent times like this, the need for mental health becomes paramount. Mental wellness is a process; just like physical health, it's an ongoing process. You need to be intentional and practice self-care daily. Our brain is a muscle, and we need to condition it as we do in the rest of our body. 

The great news is that we can strengthen our mental health: which will enable us to recover quickly during stressful periods in our lives. When we are mentally fit, we are able to live our lives to the fullest: allowing us to make the most of opportunities that come our way and deal with stressful situations with less anxiety and with grace.

This microlearning features our special guest, Amy Yip, a certified Life Transformation and Mental Fitness Coach, Speaker, and Facilitator. She works with women worldwide to let go of the ‘shoulds’ and write the narrative they want to tell as the author of their own life story. After 16+ years leading global teams at organizations like Google, Booz Allen, and Clorox, Amy left the corporate world, sold all her belongings in her NYC apartment, and took a 1-way flight to Ghana with her husband volunteer at a breast cancer non-profit. The plan was to volunteer until May then travel the world. Clearly, COVID had different plans for her! She ended up getting stuck in Ghana for 7 months. Mental Fitness helped her find the courage to pursue her dreams, pivot her dreams during COVID, and discover the gift and opportunity in every circumstance.

During this microlearning, Amy will cover how we self-sabotage ourselves through our saboteurs: the judge, the hyper-rational, the controller, the hyper-achiever, the avoider to name a few. She will also go over the three core muscles necessary for mental fitness. 

Our C7 microlearning series is focused on how to elevate your career through short training modules. The micro-learnings are bite-sized and actionable. Our participants' goal is to "take action" 1-3 immediate actions after an event. This is in a peer setting where participants help hold each other accountable.
